Removing My Google Friend Connect Widget

Removing My Google Friend Connect Widget

Many of you are familiar with Google Friend Connect (GFC), that little sidebar widget that displays a blog’s follower count and invites you to “Join this site.” Well, at the end of last year, Google announced they would discontinue GFC for non-Blogger blogs.  Since Reality TV Fashion uses WordPress, that means GFC will no longer work here after March 1, 2012.  For that reason, after today, I’m taking the widget off my blog.

What this means for you:

If you use Google Friend Connect to subscribe to your favorite blogs: Take note that after March 1, 2012, any blogs you’ve followed with GFC that are non-Blogger blogs will no longer appear in your Blogger Dashboard  (if you have an account) or Google Reader if you have a Google account. This may be a good opportunity to look through the non-Blogger blogs you follow through GFC, and see if you’d like to subscribe to them in another way.

Other ways to follow or subscribe to Reality TV Fashion:

RSS feed: You can use this link to subscribe to my RSS feed, which will bring each and every post straight to your favorite RSS reader of choice. Some favorites include Google Reader (if you have a Gmail account, your Google Reader is usually linked at the top of your Gmail inbox, or sometimes under the link “More”),  My Yahoo!, Newsgator, Bloglines, and Netvibes, just to name a few.

Email: You can use this link to get my new blog posts delivered right to your inbox.  You’ll receive only one email per day from me around 11 am EST with any new updates from the last 24 hours.

BlogLovin: You can use this link to subscribe to my posts using Bloglovin, which is a RSS reader geared toward fashion, beauty and personal style blogs.

Twitter: You can use this link to follow me on Twitter. I usually chat on Twitter in the evenings, as well as share links to my new posts, RT helpful or amusing links in my twitter stream, and also answer fashion/style queries.

Facebook: You can use this link to follow me on Facebook. I post less on Facebook than I do on Twitter because I don’t want to clutter up your News Feed, but I do share links to my new blog posts, and also do my best to answer questions and give advice if you ask.

Google Plus: You can use this link to follow me on Google Plus. I’m still experimenting with this and haven’t quite figured out all the quirks, but would love to have you join me over there!

You can also follow my web discoveries on Stumble Upon, videos on YouTube and photos on Flickr.

If you subscribed to Reality TV Fashion through Google Friend Connect, I hope you’ll decide to continue following me through one of the above channels. I’d also like to take this opportunity to thank you all for reading, commenting, tweeting, stumbling, subscribing, and loving Reality TV style and fashion as much as I do!
