Show Review: Samantha Black Spring/Summer 2014

NYC-based fashion designer and “Project Runway” finalist Samantha Black showcased her Spring/Summer 2014 collection “DOUBLE-SIDED” last night in Chelsea, Manhattan.  The runway show marked Sammy B’s third presentation at Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week but her first showing since appearing on the show.  Show sponsors included Svedka Vodka, Hanes Hoisery, Essence of Argan, Glam Extensions, and Indulge New York.

R&B singer/songwriter Elle Varner opened the show with an energetic performance of “Re-Fill,” and then electrifying techno beats filled the venue, signifying the start of the runway presentation.  The show opened with a neon yellow jumpsuit with plunging V-neckline and tapered peg leg.  Styled by Emily B. many of the looks on the runway were uplifted by gold body chains, voluminous, blown out hair, and dramatic, smoky eyes.  Floral, kaleidoscope prints, midi-length frocks and jumpsuits with strategically placed cutouts, and black and white monochromatic colorblocking dominated the runway.  The final model to walk the stage was reality personality and long-legged beauty Jennifer Williams, who served high fashion in a semi-sheer graphic tunic top complete with long chiffon train, flowing “faux-hawk” hairdo, and smoldering makeup.

The front row was flanked by a slew of fashion notables including artists Wynter Gordon, Luke James, Bridgette Kelly, Ravaughn, “Basketball Wives Miami” star Tami Roman, her “Belles” cast-mate and actress Elise Neal, former “Basketball Wives Miami” star Meeka Claxton, and “LaLa’s Full Court Life” star Po Johnson.

Sammy B’s latest collection juxtaposed edgy pieces with feminine silhouettes.  Check out more of the designer’s S/S 2014 offerings in the gallery below and visit Sammy Black with inquiries or to place an order.
