Spring 2013 #NYFW Personal Style Round-Up

Spring 2013 #NYFW Personal Style Round-Up

I kept my Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week pretty low-key but I did take in a few shows and some of you emailed/tweeted me about my ‘fits throughout the week.  So here’s the tea:  For Fashion’s Night Out at Suite 55′s BLEND Showroom I played around with a few trends that were hot this season, including neon, sheer, and a high-low hemline.  I was extremely conflicted about whether or not to wear flats or heels but I ultimately opted for comfort over being fabulous.  When I attend these events I’m credentialed as press and not a “guest,” so technically I’m working and I don’t necessarily need to go full on glam when I’m running around doing interviews and things.

TopChelsea Flower Exclusive Sleeveless Blouse | JeansRag & Bone | Bag: Chanel Vintage Quilted Tassel Bag | Accessories: Betsey Johnson “Iconic Heart of Gold” Rope Heart Multi-Charm Necklace & Bracelet;  RichSquare Bangle

I took in the Olcay Gulsen Spring/Summer 2013 #NYFW Show in the INC International Concept Halter Paisley Print Maxi Dress.  The sleeveless floor skimming dress features a high neckline with keyhole detail, allover paisley print, and embellished beaded waist.  The blend of fresh spring colors made me happy and I thought the green pattern set off my new ombre lacefront nicely. That was my first time “going blonde” and my first time rocking a lacefront so I was a lil shy about that and definitely looking to set it off right!

For the Jackie Christie Spring/Summer 2013 #NYFW Show I slipped into the same claystone Helmut Lang Slack Jersey Drape Dress that NeNe Leakes wore last season on “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”  The peach one shoulder dress features an asymmetrical neckline and hem with ruched waist.  I love this dress because it’s so soft and easy, and I think it’s coral hues were made for brown skin.  I paired it with nude Christian Louboutin Lady Peep Toe Pumps and my RichSquare Bangle along with a couple other pieces from the hubs.

After wearing dresses all week long I needed some respite so I went for a more casual, playful look at the “Basketball Wives L.A.” Viewing Party. Material Girl’s blue Sleeveless Printed Bustier Jumpsuit features a sweetheart neckline, adjustable spaghetti straps, and an allover ‘Blurry Spots’ print. I particularly like that this jumper has pockets at the hips.  I styled it with a braided skinny belt and Felix Rey Sequined Tote Bag.

Reality TV Fashion reader Alicia writes: “You should do a personal style post about your hair. How do you get it to be wavy all the time?”  Gosh, I wish I had some secrets to share, but the truth is I wear my [relaxed] hair in a bun every day (it’s my “go-to” style for work), and the only time I really take it down is on weekends and/or when I attend events.  Also, I stopped wrapping my hair at nights back in 2006 (after I realized the damage I was doing to it by wrapping it), so I sleep in a loose bun, with silk scarf, as well.  So any “waves” you see are from it being wound around and secure in a bun daily, and that’s about it chica!
