LaLa lent her celebrity for good at Pampers 50th Birthday Celebration at The Mount Sinai hospital in New York City. Reality TV Fashion caught up with the 31-year-old basketball wife and TV personality at the event to discuss motherhood, marriage, giving back, her husband’s road to the Knicks, and her upcoming reality TV show “LaLa’s Full Court Life.” For the Pampers celebration LaLa donned Diane von Furstenberg’s $345 Bison Celia Pleated Skirt Dress in khaki. The silken bodice of the neutrally-toned dress is trimmed in twisted chiffon; more of the same sheer fabric shapes the asymmetrically pleated skirt. She accessorized with a matte gold belt and $575 beige Brian Atwood Maniac Pumps.
Below is a snippet from our interview.
Reality TV Fashion: LaLa, you’ve been keeping yourself busy! You’ve made a name for herself as a radio host, MTV VJ, film actress, and now reality TV star. What’s the new show about?
LaLa: (laughs) I tell people all the time that I’m more than just a “basketball wife.” There’s nothing wrong with being that, of course… but I keep myself busy with my own life, our son, and my own accomplishments. I’m really excited about the upcoming show! It’s all about my life now that my husband was traded to the Knicks. You’ll actually get to see the whole trade happen. Also on the show, you’ll get to see some of my close celebrity girlfriends like Serena Williams, Kelly Rowland, Kim Kardashian, Ciara… the whole crew. (laughs) And you’ll also see me giving dating advice. See, I’m the only one who’s married now so it’s kind of funny how I’m offering advice on different things. It’s a fun show. I hope people like it.
Reality TV Fashion: Well that sounds really fun – I know I’ll be tuning in! So just to be clear, this isn’t like a newly wed show or anything?
LaLa: No, not at all. You’ll see Melo here and there… after all, he’s my husband. (laughs) But this show is all about me, and how I’m settling in NYC with our son and adjusting to life here. Like, we’re still living in a hotel and that’s been tough! (laughs) I like reality TV because it gives people a look inside of something that they wouldn’t normally see. Even with us and with the trade and how it all happened, it looks a certain way on the outside, but when you get in there you’re like, “Okay, maybe it wasn’t exactly how I thought.” I think it’ll really give people a chance to see my personality and how I am and I think that’ll be good.
